A bone in a prime rib roast typically weighs between 2–3 lbs. The weight of a prime rib roast depends on how many bones it has, and can range from 4–18 lbs:
2-bone roast: Weighs around 5–7 lbs
3-bone roast: Weighs around 7–10 lbs
4-bone roast: Weighs around 10–14 lbs
5-bone roast: Weighs around 14–17 lbs
6-bone roast: Weighs around 14–16 lbs
7-bone roast: Weighs around 16–18 lbs
A general rule of thumb is to plan for 1 lb of prime rib per person. However, if you’re serving a large holiday meal with other food, you can plan for ½–¾ lb per person
